Yesterday the 49-year-old Parks and Recreation actor celebrated 23 years of sobriety. Rob Lowe quit drinking in 1990 when he went to rehab and wrote a memoir in 2011 titled, Stories I Only Tell My Friends. He appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight while promoting the book, and described the experience:
“It was great. I loved it. Because I was ready. Problem is, people go into rehab and they’re not ready. You want to get sober for your parents, you want to get sober for your job, you want to get sober for the cops, you want to get sober to protect your image. A lot of good reasons, by the way, but unfortunately, the only thing that works is that you have to want to get sober for you.”
Last night, Lowe tweeted in celebration:

Lowe spent the past week relaxing and surfing in Oahu’s North Shore. He documented the experience on Twitter, much to the excitement of female fans:

Seems like a good way to celebrate such a major milestone!
