News is breaking that Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones, Pawnee’s Chris Traeger and Ann Perkins, will be leaving Parks and Recreation midway through the sitcom’s upcoming sixth season. The exit will take place after episode 13, sometime in February 2014. Fans have been provided no specific reason behind the departure, though the whole “Ann approaches Chris to make a baby via artificial insemination” scenario cooked up during last season left many (including this viewer) slightly gaggy.
Executive producer Mike Schur hints that the duo may leave Pawnee together, saying, “with the two of them contemplating parenthood, it felt like a natural time to move them into the next phase.” Time will tell what the “next phase” is, but apparently it will not take place in Pawnee.
